Timloc donates highways to support Merton Hedgehog Rescue initiative

Date Posted: 13th May 2026

Launched during Hedgehog Awareness Week, the donation will help more residents in the Surrey area create safe garden routes for hedgehogs.

Hedgehog Highway by Timloc, (part of the Alumasc Group plc), has donated 60 Hedgehog Highways to Merton Hedgehog Rescue as part of its ongoing campaign to help protect one of the UK’s most loved and increasingly vulnerable wild mammals. Designed to connect neighbouring gardens, the product enables hedgehogs to move more freely in search of food, water and shelter, while helping reduce the need for dangerous journeys across roads.

Based in the Merton area, Merton Hedgehog Rescue provides emergency care for injured, orphaned and unwell hedgehogs, while also raising awareness of simple actions residents can take to make their outdoor spaces more wildlife friendly. Operating from a family home, the rescue plays an important role in rehabilitating hedgehogs and helping return them to the wild.

The donation will support the rescue’s local initiative to encourage residents to install hedgehog highways in fences and gravel boards. As part of the project, Merton Hedgehog Rescue is offering a 13cm drill bit for people to borrow, helping them create the correctly sized opening needed for hedgehogs to pass safely between gardens. The initiative has already seen a positive response.

Kelly Parsons, Founder of Merton Hedgehog Rescue said:

“It’s been really encouraging to see how quickly local people have got behind the idea. We’ve already had 11 people borrow the 13cm drill bit in the space of just two weeks, which shows there is a real appetite to help hedgehogs move more safely through our neighbourhoods. The donation of 60 Hedgehog Highways from Timloc will help us keep that momentum going and make it easier for even more residents to get involved.”

A spokesperson for Hedgehog Highway by Timloc said:

“Hedgehog Awareness Week is an important opportunity to highlight the challenges hedgehogs face, and the practical steps people can take to support them. By donating these highways to Merton Hedgehog Rescue, we hope to help the charity continue its fantastic local work and inspire more households to create connected spaces for wildlife.”
