Funds Raised From Timloc’s Plastic Loft Doors for Hull Samaritans

Date Posted: 27th November 2023

With every purchase of a plastic loft door from Timloc, a donation will be made to Hull Samaritans.

Throughout November and December 2023, a donation will be made from each sale of these doors, contributing to the vital work of Hull Samaritans.

Samaritans are a renowned charity dedicated to providing vital support to those in emotional distress and making a significant difference in mental health crisis intervention.

Recently the organisation has celebrated “70 Years of Listening.” On the November 2nd, 1953, Samaritans answered their first-ever call for help, marking the beginning of a lasting legacy.

Anthony Rheinberg, Director at Hull Samaritans commented:

“When founder, Chad Varah, established Samaritans 70 years ago he founded the organisation on some core values and principles which remain the same today. The Samaritans helpline 116123 is open 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. Samaritans are there for anyone who is struggling with issues in their lives. We listen to callers without judgement. We do not give advice. Our key aim is to reduce the number of suicides a year.”

Reflecting on this significant anniversary, Kirsty Harrop, Marketing Manager at Timloc Building Products, part of the Alumasc Group plc, comments:

“It is incredible that 70 years later from the first call in 1953, Samaritans branches including Hull are still conducting incredible work by being on call 24/7 thanks to their amazing volunteers. Now, probably more than ever, their work is needed for those who don’t know where to turn or just need someone to listen.”

The estimated number of calls for help over these seven decades is an astounding 134 million. The Hull branch, one of 201 Samaritans branches in the UK, handled over 11,000 calls in 2022 alone, underscoring the vital role they play in the community.

A cumulative total of the donations generated during this campaign will be carefully tallied in January 2024, providing a tangible confirmation of the collective impact made in support of Hull Samaritans’ and the charities mission.

Anthony Rheinberg continues:

“We are extremely grateful for Timloc’s initiative to raise much needed funds for Hull Samaritans. As a branch we have to raise all our own funding to keep our branch open and allow our 70+ volunteers the facilities needed to take calls 24 hours a day.”
