Hedgehog Highway by Timloc donates highways to Lucky Hedgehog Rescue

Date Posted: 06th May 2026

Hedgehog Highway by Timloc (part of the Alumasc Group plc) has donated 60 Yellow Hedgehog Highways to Lucky Hedgehog Rescue CIC in East Yorkshire.

The donation was made as part of Timloc’s support for Hedgehog Awareness Week (run by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society), which this year is themed ‘Take the Hedgehog Pledge,’ encouraging people to choose simple, practical ways to help hedgehogs thrive. One of the pledges is to add more hedgehog highways: small access holes (typically around 13cm x 13cm) in fences and walls that help connect gardens.

Hedgehogs are a vulnerable to extinct species, with populations impacted mostly by habitat loss, particularly from new housing developments, impermeable garden boundaries and busy roads. By creating connected routes at ground level, hedgehog highways make it easier for hedgehogs to roam between green spaces and reduce the likelihood that they will be forced onto roads to find the basics they need to survive.

The Hedgehog Highway by Timloc is designed to frame and protect the access hole, making it clear what it is for and helping to prevent it being accidentally blocked. The bright yellow design is also intended to help raise awareness, especially with families and children, prompting conversations about how small changes can support wildlife.

Lucky Hedgehog Rescue CIC is dedicated to rescuing, treating and rehabilitating sick, injured and orphaned hedgehogs, with the aim of releasing them back into the wild when they are fit to thrive again. The rescue is supported by volunteers and works with the local community to improve understanding of hedgehog welfare and conservation.

The 60 highways were used to support the charity’s local outreach, helping residents, community groups and partners create connected ‘hedgehog-friendly’ routes between gardens. Lucy Felgate-Baumberg, Founder of Lucky Hedgehog Rescue said:

“I attended the Hull Careers Fair, promoting volunteering opportunities and encouraging employers to partner with us by sponsoring roles. I also raised awareness about how we can help protect hedgehogs, while sharing the highways initiative, which captured the interest of many in the community.”
