Timloc Donates Hedgehog Highways to Support North Yorkshire Rescue Initiative

Date Posted: 08th April 2026

Timloc Building Products, part of the Alumasc Group plc, has donated 120 Hedgehog Highways to Hedgepigs and Hoglets Rescue in North Yorkshire, supporting a new community conservation initiative launching in May.

The donation will support The Great Hedgehog Highway Project, a long-term initiative led by Hedgepigs and Hoglets Rescue that aims to connect every possible garden in Great Ayton. As part of the project, homeowners in the area are encouraged to sign up and create a simple 4” (13cm) hole in fences, walls or gates. Participants will then receive a Hedgehog Highway by Timloc frame, which can be fitted around the opening to create a visible feature and conversation starter in the garden.

Hedgehog Highways are one of the most effective ways to help support the UK’s declining hedgehog population. By linking gardens together, they allow hedgehogs to move safely between green spaces, reducing the need to cross busy roads and helping them access food, water and shelter, resources that are becoming increasingly difficult to find due to habitat loss.

The project will officially launch during Hedgehog Awareness Week, with the goal of creating a connected network of hedgehog‑friendly gardens throughout the village and inspiring other communities to follow suit.

About Hedgepigs and Hoglets Rescue

Founded by Jill Dodds in 2015, Hedgepigs and Hoglets Rescue is a growing wildlife rescue run by trained volunteers and dedicated “hogambulance” drivers. The team cares for sick, injured and orphaned hedgehogs, with treatments ranging from parasite control and wound care to rehabilitation following strimmer injuries, net entanglement and dog attacks.

The rescue is also planning a future fundraising campaign to build a purpose-built wild mammal hospital, enabling it to expand its rehabilitation work to include foxes, badgers and other wild mammals.

Issy Cooke, Senior Marketing Executive at Timloc Building Products, commented:

“This initiative led by Jill, founder of Hedgepigs and Hoglets Rescue, is exactly what is needed in the UK to help address the decline in hedgehog numbers and raise awareness of what homeowners can do.

“Something as simple as installing a hedgehog highway can make a real difference. We’re delighted to support this project and look forward to seeing photos of the highways installed in Great Ayton.”
