Thorne Hedgehog Rescue CIC is the latest charitable organisation to receive £200 from Hedgehog Highway by Timloc.
Through sales of the Hedgehog Highway by Timloc Building Products, part of Alumasc Group plc, a donation is made to hedgehog rescues to aid their much needed work for the UK’s wild hedgehogs.
Lisa Steward, founder and owner of Thorne Hedgehog Rescue CIC has been helping rescued animals since she was 12 years old, volunteering at animal rescues and has a degree in Wildlife Conservation. In Spring of 2022, Lisa decided to start her organisation to help rescue, rehabilitate and release the communities wild hedgehogs.
Ahead of Spring, Lisa is busy preparing for when hedgehogs come out of Winter hibernation, alongside caring for her current admissions.
Lisa commented:
“We often receive a lot of calls from locals around Springtime when hedgehogs are coming out of hibernation and it is a crucial period for them to search for food and water, which isn’t always readily available. The loss of habitat, removal of hedgerows, small fields and woodlands alongside small gardens that are normally block paved or have decking contributes to the lack of mixed vegetation and fallen leaves hedgehogs thrive in.”
Planning guidance recommends a 13cm hole be put in the base of fences in all new housing developments to create a highway for hedgehogs since being declared vulnerable to extinction in 2020. To help raise awareness, Timloc Building Products produced the Hedgehog Highway for house builders to include in their developments.
The Hedgehog Highway perfectly frames the desired hole size (13cm x 13cm) at the base of a fence or gravel board, to help signify the purpose of the hole and prevent obstruction.
With every purchase of a Hedgehog Highway by Timloc, a donation is made to hedgehog rescues in the UK. The manufacturer has already donated over £2,500 and Lisa’s charitable organisation was chosen to receive the latest contribution.
Lisa continued:
“Timloc donated £200 worth of food and equipment needed to look after the current residents we have in our care, but also to prepare for the influx of admissions we receive in Spring. We often get calls about abandoned hoglets which need a lot of care, warmth and regular feeding times to give them a chance of survival. The rescue is extremely grateful for the generous donation by Timloc Building Products and it is great to see the manufacturer promote the importance of highways.”
The Hedgehog Highway by Timoc is available in four colours: Black, Brown, Grey and Yellow as a single or multi pack.
